The United States Parachute Association and Skydive Arizona are proud to host the First World Cup of Vertical Formation Skydiving.

Aims of the 1st World Cup of VFS

  • To determine World Cup Winners of Vertical Formation Skydiving in the 4-way event.
  • To determine the world standings of the competing teams.
  • To establish Vertical Formation Skydiving world records.
  • To promote and develop Vertical Formation Skydiving.
  • To present a visually attractive image of the competition jumps and standings for competitors, spectators, and media.
  • To exchange ideas and strengthen friendly relations between the sport parachutists, judges, and support personnel of all nations.
  • To allow participants to share and exchange experience, knowledge, and information.
  • To improve judging methods and practices.

Date and Place of the First World Cup of VFS
The event will take place from October 26 – 28, 2008 at Skydive Arizona, located in Eloy, Arizona, USA.

            Judge’s Conference: October 25-26.
            Registration: October 26.
            Competition: October 27 – 28.
            Departure: October 29.

Provisional Entry Date: August 12, 2008.
Final Entry Date: September 11, 2008.

Special Entry Offer
Any NAC registering at least one team, and paying at least half the registration fee by 1 August, 2008, will receive one hour of free tunnel time at the Skyventure Arizona tunnel. The team need not be named at the time of registration. Once the team (or teams) is named and full payment is received the tunnel time will be available to the delegation. Because the USPA National Skydiving Championships take place immediately prior to the 1st WC of VFS, scheduling tunnel time well in advance is highly recommended.

Entry Fees
Entry fee of $600 USD per person will include all competition costs and entry to all competition related events, but no food, lodging, or transportation. The Entry fee for Accompanying Personnel is $225 and includes access to the competition site, sanction fees, and entry to all official social events and ceremonies.

Delegations may pay by Credit Card or Bank Wire Transfer. Skydive Arizona is not responsible for any bank charges. Please be sure that your payment specifies which team(s) it applies to!

Competition Timetable

Training Judges arrival October 25th


Registration, practice:
October 26th, 08:00 until 16:00 hours.
Opening Ceremonies: 17:00 on October 26th.

Competition jumping will take place from 08:00 until sunset (17:35) October 27th and 08:00 until 16:00 on October 28th.

Closing banquet and awards, 18:30 on October 28th. Departure day, October 29th.

Delegations

Each delegation may include one each Head of Delegation, Team Manager, Team Coach, and Team Interpreter. Each delegation may also include up to four teams. Each team consists of up to five 4-way VFS competitors. Each team must have a videographer. See Rules Specific to the Competition for details. Competitors and videographers can only enter in one team.

Access

Local Transportation

Each delegation is responsible for its own transportation.

Expected Weather Conditions
Rainfall is rare, averaging .05mm (.026 inches) per day during the month of October. Typically about three days during the month will experience some rain. Average high temperature is 32 C/85 F. Average low is 13 C/55 F. Sunrise is 06:38. Sunset is 17:35.


Insurance Requirements

Competitors are strongly advised to have insurance to cover medical expenses and repatriation in the event of injury. In case of problems please contact the organizer. Liability insurance coverage to third parties for the event is provided by the organizer. Any damage to the hotels, etc. is the responsibility of the persons involved. Loss or damage to personal items and equipment are the responsibility of the participant.


Pre-event Training

The competition aircraft are available seven days a week for the two months prior to competition. (July – mid-September the drop zone is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.) A wind tunnel capable of holding VFS teams is on site. Discounted jump prices are available to teams. Teams that wish to acquire competition experience can enter the US National Championships of VFS as Guest Competitors immediately prior to the World Cup, October 24-25. During the US National Skydiving Championships, training jumps will be on a space available basis.


Accommodations
1,000-plus hotel and motel rooms are within a 20 minute drive from the drop zone, with some as close as 5 minutes. The Skyrider Inn is on the site, a two minute walk from the competition staging area. Prices range from $30 to $100 per night and most hotels offer skydiver discounts. Franchise hotels include Holiday Inn, Comfort Inn, Best Western, Super 8, Motel 6, and Days Inn. At least half a dozen non-franchise motels are in the area, including the luxurious Francisco Grande golf resort.

Skydive Arizona facilities include expansive bathrooms and showers (6 each men’s and women’s), a newly refurbished 30 place bunkhouse with storage lockers, kitchen, and laundry, and a large grassy camping area. Another 70 bunks on the dz are found in our team rooms. Some caravan parking, including utilities, is available. A fitness center and a swimming pool complete the facilities.
