Posted: June 6, 2008

So you think you can fly your canopy, or you would like to work on getting better at this essential skydiving skill? Whatever the case, whatever your level, come join us for Swoop Club.
Swoop Clubs will be held periodically throughout the summer and fall on Sunday mornings. Each event will consist of three rounds of competition. The swoop courses and point system will be set up so everyone can do it. I know that many swoop competitions are geared towards highly experienced canopy pilots, but not Swoop Club. Swoop Club will accommodate and challenge all skill levels. The courses will challenge flyers mostly on their accuracy and a little on their distance. Swoop Club is a great low key, low pressure way to learn more about flying your canopy and having fun with your friends!
Swoop Club Dates
June 22nd
July 27th
September 14th
November 23rd
Registration
Register inside manifest. Manifest will have registration forms or you can find it attached here. Please fill it out and bring it to manifest. Registration for Swoop Club will close Saturday nights before each event. When manifest closes, registration closes. We will meet at 7:45 Sunday mornings to kick off round one. Registration cost is $5 and 3 hop n pop jump tickets.
Prizes
At the end of each event there will be prizes donated by local sponsors. At the end of the all four events the overall winner will win 30 minutes of tunnel time donated by Sky Venture Arizona. This means that the more Swoop Clubs you attend the higher your overall score will be and the better chance you will have to win the tunnel time.
Rules
Each competitor will be allowed to use only one canopy for the entire competition.
- Entry gates are not mandatory to receive points for the course, but you do receive points when you eclipse them.
- The overall points acquired in the event will determine the winner.
- Competitors must wear head protection during the competition and practice.
- Any competitor may be removed from the event at any time if the meet director, safety officer, or chief judge decides that the competitor is not qualified or is performing in an unsafe manner.
- Exit altitude will begin at 4,500’ and climb 1000’ between each pass.
- Jump order will be determined by wing loading in groups of 4 or 5 per pass. Higher wing loadings will exit first. This is to be determined by the meet director.
- Your first point of contact to the ground indicates where you land and acquire points.
- If any part of your body, besides your feet, makes contact with the ground during any part of your landing you will be penalized.
- There will be a penalty for each blade or noodle strike as well as a penalty for removing any blade or noodle from the course.
- It is the responsibility of each competitor to leave enough time between landings. If the person in front of you takes out something on the course and course maintenance doesn’t have time to replace it, you may not be able to receive optimal points during your run.
- Judges decisions are non-negotiable and final.
- Have fun and be safe.
